The Meridian System

It is thought that the energy circulates the entire body in any 24 hour period, and this is essential for balance and well-being.

There is essentially one meridian that circulates around the entire body, but many different meridians are described according to their position and functions. Therefore, alternative therapists acknowledge 12 meridians which are paired bilaterally (on both sides of the body) resulting in 24 separate pathways. Within each pair, one meridian is yin and one is yang.
